I am honored to serve as President of the Finest Rotary Club in the Coachella Valley. Of course, my opinion is biased by the fact that it has so many amazing members – members who are committed to the mission of Rotary, to serve our communities and beyond with compassion and passion wherever there is a need.
Our projects are definitely a source for bragging. Each year we support a significant literacy program by distributing dictionaries and thesaurus to over 1825 students in eight elementary schools. We also hold an annual Read Across American Day in a local elementary that reaches another 650 students and we support the school library with new books and teaching aids.
We underwrite the cost of sending dozens of kids to the RYLA and PRYDE Rotary youth
development camps for high school and junior high students. These students return awed
about the life changing experience they’ve had. (In addition, club members give up their
weekends to attend as group leaders and THEY come back transformed as well.)
Speaking of scholarships and education, Palm Desert Rotary and the Palm Desert Rotary
Foundation has been providing thousands of dollars in scholarships to Palm Desert High School seniors for years and the program continues to grow.
In support of the community, we produce an annual Pancake Breakfast on the morning of the
famous Golf Cart Parade. This is truly an “all hands on board” project as we serve up eggs,
sausage, pancakes, juice, and coffee in a pop-up street cafe and serve hundreds of attendees and
I could go on bragging for another page or two and talk about our ongoing commitment to the
Galilee Center, the Speech Contest program, the Done in a Day clean ups, our service
partnership with Rotarians across the border in Mexicali, and more.
However, you get the idea and if you’d like to know more, feel free to call or e-mail.
Yours in Rotary Service,
Palm Desert Rotary President 2017-2018
